Common ukulele chord circles

A chord circle is four chords that sound good together in one key, played in a loop: I, vi, IV and V7. Countless songs use one. Start with C, the easiest key on a ukulele.

Strings run G, C, E, A from left to right, as you see them when you look at the fretboard. Numbers are fingers: 1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 pinky. A circle above a string means play it open. A bar means one finger presses several strings at once.

Tune up first: every chord sounds wrong on an out-of-tune uke.

Questions

Is My Pocket Ukulele Tuner free?

Yes. The app is free to download and use. It shows a small banner ad, which is what keeps it free. There's no subscription or in-app purchase.

Should I use high-G or low-G?

Most ukuleles use high-G tuning, where the G string sounds higher than the C next to it. Some players fit a thicker low-G string for a deeper sound. Pick the one that matches your strings; the app remembers your choice.

Is it on iPhone?

Not yet. My Pocket Ukulele Tuner is on Android phones and tablets. On iPhone, My Pocket Guitar Tuner is a chromatic tuner, so it can tune ukulele strings too.

Which ukuleles does it work with?

Soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles in standard GCEA tuning.

Does it collect my data?

No. The app has no accounts and doesn't collect personal information. Sound is analyzed on your device and is never recorded or sent anywhere. Ads are served by Google. The privacy policy has the details.
